Petra Fromme studies the structure-to-function relationship of membrane proteins through bioenergy and disease. Her lab focuses on membrane proteins of cells and physics, biology, and chemistry impact its function. This includes how cells communicate, transport, grow, and yield molecules. Fromme uses x-ray technology to determine structure in the photosystems of plants. She is using her experience in crystallography and nanocrystallography to explore bioenergy conversion.
Fromme is the center director and professor for the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery. She is a regents professor in the School of Molecular Sciences, Center for Biological Physics, and the School of Life Sciences Adjuncts and Affiliates.
