Randy Cerveny is a meteorologist specializing in data analytics for extreme weather events. He combines information collected from physical geography, climate change and meteorology to assess projects ranging from weather associated with prison escapes to computing the weather of the next 10,000 years for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Cerveny's work further spans to analyzing weather-related deaths. His algorithms have been used to give baseline mortality values for potential catastrophes.He manages the Arizona Thunderstorm Chase Project with ASU to better predict summer monsoons.

Cerveny is a President’s professor of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at ASU, and he directs the meteorology program. 

Cerveny serves as Rapporteur on Extreme Records for the United Nations/World Meteorological Organization, where he is responsible for researching and verifying global weather records.
