Patrick Young is a theoretical astrophysicist and astrobiologist specializing in computer simulations of stellar evolution, supernova explosions, and the synthesis of chemical elements.

By comparing 3D models with real supernova remnants, their work reveals how supernovae distribute newly created elements into interstellar gas, contributing to the formation of stars and planets.

Young also investigates the influence of chemical composition on planetary habitability, focusing on the co-evolution of planets and their host stars. This research is critical for identifying exoplanetary targets in the search for life. 

Young is a professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration. They serve as a science lead for the NASA TREC ICAR, based at Arizona State University.
